SpaceX Terminates Dragon Program Following Trump-Elon Musk Feud
Elon Musk announced the immediate shutdown of SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft program after former President Donald TRUMP threatened to cancel all government contracts tied to Musk's businesses. The escalation follows Musk's public criticism of Trump's tax policies.
The decision eliminates both Dragon 1 and Dragon 2 spacecraft, which served as NASA's primary vehicles for International Space Station resupply and crew transport. Dragon 2 had recently replaced U.S. dependence on Russian Soyuz rockets for astronaut transport.
NASA invested $396 million in developing Dragon 1 through its Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program. The spacecraft completed 23 cargo missions between 2010-2020 before being succeeded by the crew-capable Dragon 2 in 2019.
